Early Life and Childhood
I was born in Provo UT on January 21st, 1991. I went to elementary school at Sunset Elementary School. I was raised with my mom being a child care provider from home. This meant I interacted with a lot of other children and had to be a good example and host from a young age. Later, I attended Farr Middle School and was the last class to graduate from it before they converted it into an elementary school. During this time I was heavily involved in the LDS Church, Scouting, and Online Gaming. I achieved my eagle scout at the age of 15 and have been glad I put the effort in ever since. I was also heavy into early online games like Call of Duty, Tom Clancy's: Rainbow Six, Halo 2 and other games.
Teenage Life and Early Careers
When I was about 15 and a half I landed my first job with Pretzel Maker in the Provo Towne Center Mall. This began my career path by making pretzel, closing, and eventually training the assistant manager. Working at such a young age worked in my favor from a school perspective. I took advantage of a work release program Provo High School offered and was able to take 1 period off as a part of this program. I took the last class period off which ultimately meant I left school at lunch every day. After training the assistant manager at Pretzel Maker and seeing the shortened opportunities it offer I got a job with some family at Modus Link. I went through a variety of jobs within Modus Link from mail opening to supervising.
I also dabbled in several other work opportunity pertaining to sales. This also ranged from selling family films to selling dish network using an auto-dialer. I am glad looking back at all of the opportunities I got during my teenage years. It is with this experience that I saw first hand what not to do at a job as well as what works well at a job. I also got amazing practice and a wide variety of experience when dealing with various personalities and management styles. During this time I was still very involved in online gaming. This was heavily entrenched in LAN-parties and overnight gaming tournaments mainly consisting of First Person Shooters (FPS). I was also heavy into Role Playing Games, Racing, and Fighting games.
A Moment in Texas
During the transition from graduating high school to my current employment, I attended college out of state. I had made the decision and plans to move prior to graduating. Unfortunately the week I drove down to Baytown happen to be the same week Texas saw its economy really take a hit after the housing bubble. I moved to Baytown TX, which is about 45 minutes southeast of Houston TX. While I lived in Texas and attended Lee's College.
I studied Mechanical and Industrial Drafting and ultimately obtained my Auto-Cad Certification for both fields. I also worked briefly at Blockbuster since the economy was so poor and of course, I needed money to live. I gained some valuable perspective on life outside of the "Utah Bubble" as we call it. I learned how people interact and treat one another when there isn't a common cohesion between everyone (Mormonism). This perspective has been key in both my daily life and career. After I couldn't find any drafting jobs as planned in Texas I moved back to Utah. I started back at ModusLink returning back to Customer Service and Data Entry. I knew this is not where I wanted to be forever and started looking for other opportunities.
Marriage and Family
While I worked at ModusLink I met my wife Megan Miller. Through the course of friendship, we began to date and eventually live together. She had 3 children (Hayden, Kaitlyn, and Vanessa) who were all above the age of 3 when I met them. I instantly fell in love with Megan and her children and got married 8/6/2011. At the age of 20, I became an instant father to 3 with my oldest at the time being 7. To say this was a momentous change for me would be an understatement. Fortunately having a relationship born out of friendship has made challenge no matter how difficult bearable. To this very day, I am still very much in love with Megan and cannot imagine my life without her. I definitely cannot imagine my life without my kids and the value that they play in my life. We have fun as a family doing outings, vlogging, pranking, harassing, gaming, and of course loving each other. I enjoy relaxing by working out, having the occasional cigar, and a weekend drink.
My Life of Boostability
During my search for a new job, my father had a friend that knew of a place hiring for sales. This particular place was looking for sales reps to sell Search Engine Optimization (SEO) services. Initially, I didn't have the understanding to actually get hired but was given a second interview to give me time to study and build a basic understanding of SEO. I used this time to study like crazy seeing that this was the marketing of the future. After proving I had gained the knowledge I needed to start I was hired.
I spent my first 2 weeks selling directly for Boostability and eventually moved into their first partnership sales team called LocalEdge. I would be lying if I painted a grand tale of sales and hitting my goals. The leads were difficult to work with considering they were primarily disgruntled customers that we were trying to comb back through. Eventually, this methodology didn't work for either side and I returned back to selling directly for Boostability. I loved this kind of selling much better but still felt like I was missing something.
So I applied to move to Account Management for Boostability. I instantly fell in love with this kind of work helping customers understand and appreciate SEO was something I really enjoyed while making them more visible online. I did for a year or two before switching over to the Partner channel at Boostability. With this new role in the partner channel, I took over a small partnership called Mediative. With the overall partner being Yellow Pages. during this time I worked as a Senior Manager with around 35 employees. I handled day to day aspects of account management as well as SEO strategy for the entire book of business comprised of over 2000 accounts and spends ranging from $150-$3000+ spends.
I love what I do and couldn't be happier with my progress and partner growth that has occurred over the past 2 years. Now I am the Director of SEO Strategy which is a fancy way of saying I monitor, test, and enhance our product offering for ALL clients at Boostability. With a little over 16,000 clients, it can get pretty crazy at times but that is what I love about the SEO industry.
Gaming, Gaming, and More Gaming
Although a smaller portion of my life gaming is still very much a part my daily life. I play just about everything nowadays with my primary console of choice being Xbox. I continually try new games and genres always looking for that great game to experience. I play a ton of games on my phone during my spare time here and there. This also has a wide range of casual games to real-time strategy games.
I actively play Destiny, Titanfall 2, Call of Duty (any of them!), and Rocket League. My wife also likes to play Halo so that is the game I play most often. On top of console gaming, I enjoy card and board games with my family and friends. Specifically to note Settles of Catan, Carcassonne, Texas Hold'em, Uno, and much more. Overall gaming is something I enjoy and is something my family enjoys. The alias I have used for a long time is "Hectick C" for almost any sort of gaming affiliation.
